I know I should be making more of an effort here, but it is tough. England’s football nemesis is Germany, but the Germans and Dutch are far too busy trying to beat each other to care much about the rest of the world: there is a whole wikipedia entry dedicated to the rivalry between the two teams – some UN reports look less damaging than this.
On a second level, Chile is up against them and, really, need to beat them to stand a better chance in the next stages. So, sorry, if you were expecting a wonderful recipe from the Netherlands, this is not it.
One of the only Dutch delicacies I consume regularly are stoopwafels: biscuits filled with a caramel syrup, which are traditionally put on top of a coffee mug to warm up in the hot steam. Delicious.
I’m sure you can make them yourself, but you can also quite easily buy them. Just let’s hope Chile can diminish all Dutch hopes as quickly as I can get though a few of these …
